Matthew Rice

Director of Ballroom



Master of the art of "lead and follow", Matthew has been an active professional in the Salt Lake City Dancesport scene for 17 years. He has taught thousands of people along the Wasatch front during that time. Matthew originally certified as an instructor with Arthur Murray Dance Studios and worked first as an instructor and then became a franchise owner within that organization. He has worked for DanceSport in Motion as the Director of Ballroom dance for almost five years. He competes in the western United States with many of his students in Pro/Am Competitions, and with his lovely wife Nancy at the Professional level. Matthew is an excellent instructor for beginners through very advanced dancers, with many years of experience making him a patient and effective instructor.





C.J. Thirkill

C.J. Thirkill has an extensive dancing career spanning 10 years. He began dancing in college at UVSC and BYU where he completed his Gold Bar Latin and Standard Syllabi with high marks. He was a former member of the 1999 U.S. National Latin Formation Team and winners of the prestigious Open British Latin Formation Championships in Blackpool , England . C.J. has traveled both nationally and internationally competing as an amateur competitor. He has placed in the finals of the U.S National Pre-Championship Latin and Standard Divisions, and placed in the semi-finals of the U.S. National Championship Latin and Standard Divisions. C.J. has extensive experience teaching, coaching, and choreographing in the Latin, Standard, and Smooth Divisions. C.J. enjoys sharing his enthusiasm for dancing with his students
   



Enrique Ortega

Teaches:
Salsa



Enrique Ortega (“El Cubano”) started dancing in Cuba at the age of four. He has been teaching the diverse styles of Salsa for over the past 4 years and is a well-known and respected dancer and competitor throughout the Salt Lake region. He has won multiple Salsa titles and competitions and has been featured in Mark Anthony’s “I Need To Know” video.





Hortencia Perez

Hortencia Perez trained at the Latin Dance Company in San Francisco, CA and has the experience of performing in the LA World Salsa Congress in 2001 & 2002. She has been teaching the styles of salsa since 2002 and recently took 2nd Place in the Mambo Kings 2003 Salsa Contest.
